The kindred are fortunate who have a rune speaker. No mere seer, the rune speaker possesses the skills of a healer; yet, incapable of speaking falsehoods, her greatest asset lies in her ability to cast the runes and call forth the message of the spirits of the land and the gods at will.
Born to one branch of the ruling triad of the people of the bear Gyda Arvidsdotttir is Frowned upon for her gender and, for her small stature, feared as an oaf - the troll's changeling. When orphaned, she is cruelly mistreated and rejected by those sworn to protect her. Seeking refuge in the mountains Gyda is befriended and trained by a mysterious one-eyed man who reveals her identity and unravels the path set before her. It is to her own kindred she must return to preserve the life of the chieftain who would see her dead. Counting no cost to her person the Rune Speaker endures as she must to guide her kindred through the ravages of fire, calamity and the attacks of their sworn enemy, the ever-grasping people of the wolf. Above all, She must see peace maintained between the neighboring kindreds to ensure the lives of those yet unborn and the certainty of the future of the People of the Bear for the promise of another whose coming was foretold. If she fails, the time of fulfillment will pass. Then, all will be for naught and generations must pass before another runespeaker is bornto begin once more.
